New Belgian block, smoothly laid, now marks the often photographed view down Washington Street in DUMBO to the Manhattan Bridge framing a distant Empire State Building. Some remember when a skywalk with a big clock linked buildings on either side of the street.

In the second picture posted here, a stray dog stood on Washington Street and a pedestrian bridge with a clock ran above the street in 1973, when this photo was taken. Redevelopment had not yet begun, nor had the name DUMBO come into existence.
